Dear Sophomore,
When I first entered Honors Sophomore Composition, I had no idea what I had got myself into. I was thinking about all the essays, projects, and books we have to read. One look at the assignment sheet and I was out the door, but Mrs. Hood said, Relax, calm down, well go through this together, its a big step from being a freshman to being a sophomore, take it one step at a time. After that I felt better.
Now that the semesters over and there is no more stressing and worrying about theses, how many cds and cms there are in a paragraph and the difference between direct and indirect characterization, I find that I have grown from this class. I know at first it will be hard and everything, stressing out every day, but youll get used to it. And you will find, believe it or not, that it becomes easy. Yes, EASY!
All you need in this class is a little confidence in yourself and youll be fine. Just remember the teacher cares about each and every one of you. If you are having difficulty, go to her for advice and help. The best of luck to you!
Sincerely,
A former Honors Sophomore Comp. Student
Dear Sophomore,
HSCL is a class you can learn a lot from if you want. I dont believe it is a very difficult class, but it is not easy, either. You have to attend class, do you homework, and pay attention and then everything else just falls into place. I feel like Mrs. Hood makes this classroom a very comfortable learning environment. She is also willing to help anyone in tutorial. Tutorial is a good idea, everyone should attend it for HSCL. Mrs. Hood also never gives up on a student which encourages a student to reach his/her fullest potential. Of course, sometimes you feel like not being in this class because you have to focus a lot, but at the end you feel like you have learned so much and accomplished a whole lot.
Sincerely,
Former HSCL Student
P.S. READ!! and vocab. tests are not that hard.
Dear Sophomore,
This class is full of learning and lots of essays. Its important to pay attention and do all of the class work. This next piece of advice may seem obvious, but its crucialread all of the books, front to back, and understand them. If you do this, your grades will be so much better on the essays and the quizzes. Reading is very important in this class and some of the books are actually interesting. Do your best on all the assignments. If there is an assignment you are particularly passionate about, then put your heart and soul into it. A lot of the writing assignments in this class are as much for you as they are for your teacher. I know for myself, the poetry unit and vignetttes were great for releasing and expressing feelings. Most assignments can be relaxing as longs as you start on time, plan and organize and DONT wait until the last minute! Also start reading for outside reading as early as possible and always make appointments because Wednesday is not a tutorial day and you cant do book talks then. Good luck and have fun!
Sincerely,
former HSCL student
